Lightpath Managed WiFi Question and Answer
Nelson Hom, Product Line Manager, answers some of the most frequent questions regarding Lightpath Managed WiFi, its benefits, and shares some details on how the solution is implemented.
What are the direct advantages of managed services?
Many organizations are fully capable of putting in their own WiFi solution. The advantage of a managed service is that a customer receives a complete WiFi solution without the hassles: spending capital on necessary equipment, getting maintenance contracts on that equipment, keeping up with any software or firmware updates, or having dedicated staff or resources to design, implement and manage the WiFi network. With the Lightpath Managed WiFi service, businesses enable their organization to do what they do best; work on growing the business, providing flexibility, connectivity and productivity to employees and guests - all for a flat-rate, monthly recurring charge.
Is a wireless analysis performed for all sites? If so, how long does it take?
There are actually two stages. The first is a desktop estimate that takes inputs from the customer to produce a preliminary design and a budgetary price. After we present that information to the customer and they agree to move forward, we'll do an on-site survey to finalize design and provide a final quote to the customer. The required design work and coordination with the customer can vary by the size and complexity of the install.
Does the Lightpath Managed WiFi network integrate with mobile devices?
One of the benefits of Lightpath Managed WiFi is flexibility for employees to access company network resources from their tablets or smartphones. You empower them to be the most productive they can be on their preferred device. You can easily create a separate environment for guest access to the Internet or to specific resources in your internal network. And logging in is simple, as long as you have the proper credentials.
How does Lightpath implementation assure security?
Lightpath Managed WiFi integrates with a customer's existing network security and authentication schemes to safeguard access to the Managed WiFi platform. Additionally, the equipment we deploy fully implements LAN security protocols to provide further security, depending on specific customer requirements. We work with the customer to configure and manage a secure wireless network.
Is Lightpath Managed WiFi cloud-based?
The Managed WiFi solution extends the customer's network at their location. Currently all components of the service are at the customer site, but as we evolve, we may incorporate emerging cloud-based WiFi technologies to achieve even greater scalability, cost efficiencies, and an enhanced customer experience.
